“I tell you, there will be rejoicing among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents” Luke 7:10
We sometimes forget that the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as the Sacrament of Confession or Penance, is a Sacrament of Joy. It is difficult to admit our failures, even more so to let them rise out of our hearts and to say them out loud. The devil tries to tie our tongue in fear or shame.
Christ already knows our sins; He already died to forgive them. He waits for us to bring them to Him in the Sacrament of Forgiveness, so that we can truly hear Him say, through His priest, “I absolve you from your sins.” All He asks is our sorrow for causing Him to suffer and our desire to follow Him anew. What an amazing sacrament, where the world’s worst sinner might enter the confessional, and come forth shining in holiness, filled with the light of Christ. No wonder the angels in heaven rejoice; we should rejoice with them!
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered each Saturday at 4:00 p.m. We offer two parish reconciliation services one during Advent and one during Lent with private confession.
First reconciliation for children with appropriate catechesis is in the fall of the second grade or by appointment.
