St. Vincent de Paul Annual Report—2009
We can best sum up our 2009-year by quoting from our St. Vincent de Paul Prayer “we who are filled with good things may never close our hearts to the hungry, the homeless, and the poor.”
Through the generosity of the members of the Christ the King parish, and others in the community, we did just that.
Food drives were sponsored by:
Elmhurst and Villa Park Post Offices—Montini Catholic High School---Christ the King Faith Formation Students—Christ the King Learning Academy Students—Montessori School--- Thanksgiving mass parishioners--- Many anonymous food donations.
Other Donations:
A parishioner donated 31 new children coats and snowsuits---
8-Baskets of Love from the Chicagoland Italian American Charitable Organization filled with Thanksgiving food along with a 15lb. turkey in each Basket---Each week we receive large amounts of baked goods from Panera Bread—Ultra Foods—Breadsmith and from Capitol Grill meat endings, cooked potatoes, chicken and fish. Yorktown Deli donated the bread distributed at Thanksgiving Mass. In addition, we
also receive bags of food each week from two parishioners.
Many members of our parish contribute financially to St Vincent de Paul using monthly St. Vincent de Paul envelopes while others have sent us financial contributions in memory of, or in honor of family or friends.
In 2009:
Through our weekly food pantry we served 1,305-households---
4,000 people—1,300 seniors and 1,001 children
We distributed at Thanksgiving 21 boxes of food to the needy in our parish
Our annual parish Christmas “Angel Tree” gave Christmas gifts to 145 young people
We distributed 16 Christmas boxes of food to the needy in our parish
Every week we distribute our leftover fresh food to Deicke Home for Mentally Challenged and Yorktown Senior Center
Christ The King, St. Vincent de Paul also provided financial aid to Catholic Charities, Love Christian Clearing House, Women’s Clinic Services, Nedsra, Thumbuddy Special, and Ray Graham Organization.
In closing, on behalf of the Members of Christ The King St. Vincent de Paul Society and the clients we serve, for your many donations and prayers we say Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you.
