From the Pastor's Desk...
With this very mild weather, we may think that it is still September; when it is now the beginning of November! November is a special time in the church, as we remember those who have died. This weekend our liturgy is all about the saints—All Saints Day. We are able to think of the saints, the men and women who have been examples of what it means to follow Jesus Christ. We may also think of the church we used to attend that was named after a saint, or we may think of the saint we used for our confirmation. We may also have a special favorite saint we use in our prayer. May these holy men and women be an example to us and give us encouragement in our personal faith. Jesus calls each of us to holiness. How might we respond to that call?
Monday, November 2, is All Souls Day. In a special way at mass we remember those who have died and gone home to the Lord. We are encouraged to visit the cemetery, pray for the dead, and look with hope as one day we will be called home to the Lord. If you come to mass on Monday, you may bring a picture of a loved one that you want to remember in a special way. During the mass, the names of those who have been buried from the parish in the past year will be read. For Catholic people, life is not ended, it is only beginning with God in eternity. We cannot figure out how that works with computers or brilliant minds—only our faith tells us that something that is “more” than this life awaits each one of us.
May the beginning of this month of November be good for you. God looks after us here and now, and He is taking care of us when we go Home to Him.
Peace……Fr. Jeff
