I pray you had a good Christmas; that you were able to encounter the Christ Child who gives healing and peace in a special way. We now open up Ordinary Time for a short while until Ash Wednesday. Our liturgical color for Ordinary Time (meaning there is “order” in our sacred readings) is green—a color of new life and growth in Jesus Christ.

This week on Thursday we want to pray for the legal protection of the unborn and the vulnerable. Life is a precious gift that you and I experience every day. We have joys and sorrows; and everything in between. The most precious among us are the little babies growing in the wombs of their mothers. We want to protect them physically and spiritually. Prayer, and how we live our life with respect to other people, all shows and promotes life itself. All human beings have a soul and are created in the image and likeness of God.

Recently here in Illinois, we have joined other states with assisted suicide. This is not going away, and we know from experience it will only grow to other states. The elderly, the sick and those on the margins of society are still sacred and holy. Right to life is for the unborn, the born, and those who may be near natural death. Let us pray for, and respect all life.

Peace………Fr. Jeff
