From the Pastor's Desk...
Holy Days are not what they used to be. We had a few more than we have today. Part of the change is that if a holy day of obligation falls on a Saturday or Monday, it is moved to Sunday or it is not obligatory. Our next special holy day is coming up on November 1—All Saints. However, because it is on a Saturday, it is not obligatory—no special mass; however, if a regular scheduled mass is on for that morning, it must be for All Saints.
Sunday, November 2, is All Souls. This special day is not a holy day of obligation, but we remember all who have died. All Saints will be the mass celebrated on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday morning. We remember all who have died and have gone home to the Lord. We are also encouraged to visit the cemetery of our loved ones. Visiting the cemetery is especially good for us to do, since in November we start to see the winter weather starting. We are encouraged to pray for the faithful departed.
You are invited to bring a picture of your deceased loved one to mass on Saturday afternoon or on Sunday morning of November 1 & 2. Place the picture near the altar. Please be sure to take the picture home with you; go up to the sanctuary and remove the picture after mass. Also, the names of those who have been buried from the parish since last November, will be recited during the time of the Prayers of the Faithful.
Peace……….Fr. Jeff
