This weekend is a special day; it is the Feast of Christ the King! This day concludes our liturgical year. Next Sunday we will begin a new church year with the beginning of Advent. This title of Christ the King, was promulgated in the 1920’s when people were looking for a leader—politics was getting out of control all over. Imagine that! The Holy Father spoke up and said we have one leader whom we look to for help, and who loves and cares for us. This leader, of course, is Christ the King. Jesus is our Good Shepherd who watches over us. He is also our heavenly King who calls us to follow Him. May we always be faithful to Him.

This is a big week for travel, family and shopping. Thursday is Thanksgiving Day. You are invited to attend Thanksgiving Day mass at either Christ the King, Lombard or at Ascension of our Lord, Oakbrook Terrace, at 9:00. As followers of Jesus, we give thanks to God every single day. I encourage you to reflect on your blessings all the time. God knows you. He loves you. Sometimes we can get caught up in things that may seem big and important; but it is really the simple things in our life that we must never take for granted. God gives us the gift of life! With our blessings, we are called to not only thank God, but to share our blessings of who we are with others. May God bless you and your family and close friends this Thanksgiving week.

Peace……Fr. Jeff
