From the Pastor's Desk...
World peace. It is something we are always encouraged to pray for. We pray for peace in our world as part of the prayers at mass. We have hymns about peace. We look at earthly peace, and the peace that comes from God. Peace is precious, and something we should not take for granted.
I think about peace in our world as we go back 80 years when the Second World War was coming to an end. It may seem like so long ago; but in the history of the world, it is relatively recent. With the use of nuclear bombs, we entered a dangerous place in the history of the world.
About 2 years after the war ended, scientists came up with the Doomsday Clock. This is to remind us how fragile we all are. There are some things we may not agree with regarding the clock, but it gives us a good indication of where the secular world is. God wants us to take care of creation. Life is a gift. As Christians, we are always people of hope. The Doomsday Clock is set at 89 seconds to midnight—Doomsday. This is the shortest it has been set since it came to be in 1947. Let us each pray for peace in our world. And, we know, that peace begins with each one of us.
Peace……Fr. Jeff
